  • GNSession 41 – Rincón de la Vieja (Sensoria) Dawn | GreenNoise – Spreading the Voice of Nature
since our last recording It definitely feels good to be back in the forest looking for more GreenNoise This time we re far north in the northern side of the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano We were invited to Finca Sensoria by owner Fernando Madrigal who showed interest in our project and goals This place beholds a humid and lively tropical rainforest The property is on the Caribbean slope which is characterized by a humid and moist climate Our alarms went off at 4 30am After a 5 minute snooze we jumped out of our bunks at the sound of the first Howler Monkey It marked the start of Dawn We walked into the forest in darkness It still sounded like nighttime but the clearing pink sky showed us otherwise Soon the howlers weren t the only ones waking up dozens of birds began to sound from all around As the sky lights up it leaves at plain sight majestic nature Dense forest covers all of this property A river sounds nearby in constant energy The ground is moist and rich It seems to us we re up for a new and wild adventure that has just begun with today

  • GNSession 39 – Osa Midnight | GreenNoise – Spreading the Voice of Nature
Peninsula With luck a shooting star may be spotted from beneath the trees The noise has fallen in an insect dominated trance Friction rings from all around in different tones and frequencies As we set our gear a curious night bird flashes its light eyes at us In a near background waves crash in steady rhythm polishing rocks in the sand Life fills the air of this dark starry midnight

  • The discovery of the “black turtle” in Costa Rica, right in between no man’s land | GreenNoise – Spreading the Voice of Nature
with Nicaragua has managed to remain almost completely unnoticed until 2012 Nearly exactly one year ago we a group of young scientists decided to find out what was behind of the comments of some park rangers and visitors to this island stating the presence of several turtles per night but not from the Olive Ridley but the bigger one the one they call the black turtle And what began with an exploratory tour led to the biggest discovery of the year To date we have identified more than 250 females who have laid more than 800 nests which together places the North Pacific of Costa Rica among the largest colonies in the Eastern Pacific an enormous finding for sea turtle researchers but a huge responsibility for the country The Northern Pacific and in particular the Bat Islands and the Peninsula of Santa Elena are distinguished by an incomparable beauty created by its ancient geological history fragile dry forest habitat a marine biodiversity so high it just has begun to be described and a loneliness so quiet it can only be perceived when being there But all of these compliments do not help us in our mission to preserve this black turtle population The remoteness of this area make the existence of a no man s land possible where no political boundaries are respected nor the borders of protected areas and even less the presence of endangered species And as the worst of it nobody notices Although the existence of this population is probably due to its isolation from civilization it is the same reason why the black turtles incidents with illegal and unsustainable fishery activities happen before our blind eyes which again because of the distance to us is difficult to document manage and to improve Distance should not inhibit
